Richard's Ride 2019

Richard’s Ride 2020 is going virtual!  Ride one of the Richard Tom Foundation (RTF) traditional routes or create your own route in Vermont or anywhere throughout the world (Richard was a world-class rider!).  We invite you to complete your ride and then post a photo and/or route map (from Strava or RidewithGPS) of your ride on our Facebook page.  This will make your ride “official”.

Why are we going virtual?  Although Vermont ranks very low (or lowest) in the US for detected cases per capita, COVID-19 has not loosened its grip on the nation.  Our overarching goal is to encourage fitness and adventure through cycling with riders participating in a very safe manner and all in the spirit of and memory of Richard Tom.

    • RTF Route suggestions: You can ride a route of your choice (road, gravel, MTB), however, here are three suggested traditional Richard’s Ride routes:
      • Richard’s Family Ride: Easy 14 mile out and back along Cochran Road and Duxbury Road following the Winooski River. ROUTE LINK.
      • Richard’s 30: 33.6 miles of rolling scenic terrain with some climbs and descents. ROUTE LINK.
      • Richard’s 70: Our most challenging route! 71.7 miles with no mountain notches or gaps but nearly 5000’ of cumulative climbing (and of course descents!). ROUTE LINK.

The first annual Richard’s Ride was held in May 2016 starting at Cochran’s Ski Area in Richmond Vermont and has quickly become a spring tradition. The ride celebrates Richard Tom’s life and brings together old friends and new friends for smiles, camaraderie, and cycling

Richard’s Ride has something for everyone: from short family rides, to mountain bike trail rides, to road rides from 15 to 70 miles.

Richard’s Ride is the primary fundraiser for RTF for the year to advance the causes that Richard Tom cared about: cycling safety, getting kids on bikes, and supporting young riders. You can read more about the programs that Richard’s Ride supports here.
